Once the temperatures have risen (and seem to be staying) above 7 degrees, it is time to remove your winter tires. While they provide a safer drive in the winter, the summer roads will do nothing but strip them down. Whether or not you have switched your tires, it is important to check their alignment, pressure and tread. Fluctuations in temperature and the unfortunate appearance of potholes can cause quite a bit of damage to your tires. It is crucial that they be in good condition to get you safely through the warm weather.

Of course, having working breaks is a must. The road salt that you probably drove through day in and day out during the winter can negatively affect the condition of your breaks. By checking them out, you can make sure you will stop safely and quickly every time.

It’s always a great idea to get an oil change to start the spring season off on the right foot. While you’re there, check to see if a change of your oil filter might be needed as well. By keeping up to date on your oil changes, you are helping to keep your car engine healthy.

Have your car battery tested and replaced if necessary. The low temperatures we experience during the winter months force our vehicle batteries to work harder and could wear them out faster.

Replacing your wiper blades is a great idea after winter. There is a large chance they have been worn down after working hard to remove snow and ice from your windshield every morning. While you’re at it, fill up your windshield washer fluid, too, and make sure you’re ready for the next road trip!

Many people welcome the warm weather by “spring cleaning” their house, so why not include your car? Cleaning your vehicle’s undercarriage will remove the leftover salt and grime from the winter roads to prevent any damage. Deep cleaning your lights with a soft toothbrush and baking soda will ensure you can see during the darker hours, and cleaning your interior and exterior will ensure any of the winter weather has been removed from your vehicle and you are set to drive the spring roads with a shiny, clean ride!
